At tonight’s Oscars the nominees in the acting and directing categories will be offered a gift bag with items ranging from personalised M&Ms to an all-expenses paid trip to Israel with the Israeli Ministry of Tourism.
We urge all the nominees to decline these gift bags and to refuse the Israeli government’s attempt to use their celebrity to whitewash its apartheid policies.
Instead, they should come on PalFest. Our annual travelling roadshow is the antithesis of the Israeli government’s PR junket. Over the festival week international guests travel the country putting on free, public events with their Palestinian counterparts each night and seeing the realities of occupation and apartheid from Haifa to Hebron each day.
So this is an open invitation to tonight’s Oscar nominees: #skipthetrip and come on PalFest instead.
